A renowned local blogger now claims Orange Democratic Movement party leader Raila Odinga might not be in the ballot in 2022 polls as a presidential candidate.
Robert Alai, in a tweet on Saturday, said Raila will be backing Deputy President William Ruto to take over power from President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The controversial blogger dismissed reports that the recent handshake between Raila and President Kenyatta was a plan by the ODM leader to scuttle the DP’s ambitions, saying he will be in forefront campaigning for Ruto.
“Raila is a mole in the deal with Uhuru. He will be supporting Ruto for 2022. Take this seriously,” he said.
But in what could appear like a response to Alai, Raila on Saturday hinted at vying for presidency saying his January 30 ‘swearing in’ was an indication of his determination to rise to the country’s highest office.
“You saw me put my life on the line and even take oath of office amid gunshots and unrelenting teargas. That journey we started is still on course,” the former Prime Minister told his supporters in Migori County.
Echoing similar sentiments, a number of ODM lawmakers said Raila was not ready to quit politics and had his eyes fixed on the top seat.
“Some people are saying Raila should retire, but we firmly believe he has not accomplished his goal,” said Siaya Senator James Orengo.
The leaders spoke during the homecoming party for Migori Woman Representative Pamela Odhiambo at Wasimbete in Suna West.
