NASA is to blame for the low voter turnout witnessed in Kilifi County, former Magarini MP candidate Franco Esposito has said.Esposito, who is a Kenyan of Italian origin, unsuccessfully vied for the Magarini MP seat in the August 8 elections. The seat was clinched by ODM’s Michael Kingi.Esposito argued that the opposition misled residents through its ‘no reforms, no election’ stance."The opposition team brainwashed the residents. Most of them remained indoors while some proceeded with their daily activities, boycotting the poll,” said Esposito.Esposito, who is popularly known as ‘Kasoso wa Baya’, noted that IEBC officials in the county were idle during Thursday’ repeat presidential election as voters did not turn out to exercise their democratic right."Polling centres were opened but the turnout was too low and this has never been experienced in Kenya's electoral process,” he said. He, however, commended police officers in the county for tightening security during the election. This comes following NASA leader Raila Odinga’s withdrawal from the repeat presidential election.Raila on Wednesday, during a rally at Uhuru Park, asked NASA supporters to remain at home on Thursday, adding that they should not “participate in any way in the sham elections’.
