A Kisii based politician has accused Kisii County Commissioner Godfrey Kigochi for 'allowing' police officers to ask for bribes from locals.
James Atandi, a politician from Rioma area said Kigochi had failed the security sector in the region.
“Kigochi is aware of how locals are being asked to give bribes so that they can get services especially when they report criminals to police.
"No legal action has been taken against such officers. Kigochi should move with speed and ensure all the current officers serving at Rioma police station have been transferred from the region,” he said.
Atandi stated that residents will not give anymore bribes to police officers so that they can arrest criminals.
He noted that poor locals will not afford to continue giving bribes to police officers yet the government pays them salaries.
Atandi warned that any 'criminal' who will be arrested by locals will be lynched because even if they are taken to Rioma police station they will be released on claims that there is no sufficient evidence.
He said Interior CS Fred Matiang’i should intervene so that locals can get help to end crime in the area.
