Two Kisii County-based politicians have accused President Uhuru Kenyatta of sidelining women in his recently named cabinet.
Rachael Otundo said it is unfair that gender rule has not been considered by President Uhuru.
Otundo said Parliament should not approve the names of the cabinet secretaries until more women are named to serve in the cabinet.
“President Uhuru ignored women in his list of Cabinet secretaries. I am calling on the MPs not to approve the names that were forwarded to parliament for vetting and approval,” she said.
She also decried that the Gusii community was left out in the cabinet yet powerful politicians from Kisii County stood with the Jubilee leaders during last year’s campaigns.
“More slots should be given to the Kisii people because Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto received votes from the region. We are not satisfied with the one slot given to Matiang’i,” she added.
