A Nyeri politician has been charged with infringement of copyright for a song he used in his campaigns.
Waruture Thinwa, who ran on a Democratic Party ticket for Mathira MP seat but lost, was charged before principal magistrate E. Michieka in Karatina court, that on various dates in June 2017 in Mathira, he commissioned recording and production of a song Wamunyota whose copyright belongs to singer Gathee Wanjeri.
He also faced charges over distribution of the same song on social media without consent of Gathee.

At the same constituency, A section of residents of Ndumanu village in Mathira are protesting the alleged allocation of four acres set aside for a secondary school to squatters during the recent surveying of colonial villages.
Speaking to the press, Muthea Secondary School board of governors chair Prof Peter Mathenge said that it's wrong for the school to suffer saying that surveyors encroached the school next to a colonial village on Friday last week.
He alleged that the school was not involved during the surveying saying now the school is exposed to squatters with area residents saying most of those who were allocated the land are not even genuine squatters.
Mathira MP elect Rigathi Gachagua wants the surveying stopped.
