Garissa County senatorial seat has attracted a young man who has vowed to take on political heavyweight, Yussuf Haji.
Ahmed Salah who recently celebrated his 24th birthday has vowed to unseat the incumbent Yussuf Haji who has been in the public service for over 50 years and represented Ijara Constituency two consecutive terms in the National Assembly.
The youthful leader announced his candidature to challenge someone who has become a household name in Kenya and fierce administrator who worked in different parts of the country and known for his negotiating skills.
Although Haji is yet to announce whether he will defend his senatorial seat, many believe the former administrator will not bow down to pressure from some quarters that he should hang his political boots to give youth chance to lead.
“With the shadow of the old ways of running our affairs, where there is no future for common hopes and common dreams, I announce today my candidacy for the Garissa County senatorial post come 2017 in,” said Ahmed while announcing his candidacy for the seat.
If elected, Ahmed will be the youngest senator in the country.
