Speaking in Kisii town, Nyakweba, who lost to Stephen Manoti in the last elections said that there were two buildings in Kisii town which house Universities, colleges and businesses, which had developed cracks due to poor workmanship.

He said that engineers from the county and national governments should carry out fresh audit of the buildings, so that those which do not meet the required regulations can be demolished.

Nyakweba said that the recent incident where Storm Apartments, within Jogoo estate in Kisii town collapsed, was a clear indication that engineers were not serious with their work, having approved a similar building of Gudka a few years ago which also collapsed.

He said that it was sad that engineers and owners of buildings were not serious with their work, a case that puts the lives of innocent citizens at risk.

Nyakweba commended the Kisii County government for not taking earlier precautions to evacuate occupants of the Storm Apartments, where about two hundred people could have lost their lives.

During the incident, Governor Ongwae assured area residents that the county government will trace the engineers who approved the building, to make account of their job.
