Politicians in Lamu have been accused of fueling the feud between herders and farmers in the county. Police officers are probing the role of politicians in the conflict which has led to animosity among members of the communities living in this area.It is alleged that local leaders in the county have been secretly meeting residents and inciting them against each other, Baraka FM has reported.Lamu County Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo and County Commander Muchangi Kioi on Wednesday said police officers have launched investigations into the matter. The two security bosses warned politicians against inciting residents in a bid to gain political mileage, adding that stun action will be taken against leaders who will be found culpable.“We won’t have politicians playing games with people’s lives and the peace of this region. It’s so selfish for anyone to do such a thing. People should learn where to draw the line when it comes to playing politics,” said Kitiyo.Kitiyo, who made the remarks after making impromptu visits to the affected areas, also urged residents not to allow politicians to mislead them.On his part, Kioi warned politicians and residents against taking the law into their own hands and assured them that the government has invested heavily in safeguarding them.Hongwe, Jipendeni , Maisha Masha, Witu, Katsaka Kairu, Moa, and Hindi are among the areas where conflicts between the two groups have been rife.
