Kiambu County politics was at play on Sunday when the President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto visited the area, with top leaders clashing in their presence.

Supporters of Patrick Wainaina, an independent candidate going for the Thika Town parliamentary seat, heckled MP Alice Ng'ang'a, after Ruto called her out to address the supporters.

Governor William Kabogo notably skipped the event, with few of his supporters showing up with his posters.

Kabogo is set to face Ferdinand Waititu in what is expected to be a bruising contest in this year’s elections.

Kabogo lost out to Waititu for the coveted Jubilee ticket, choosing to vie as an independent candidate.

President Kenyatta and his deputy only played role of master of ceremonies and chose to steer clear of the county politics.

They drummed support for Jubilee candidates in gubernatorial candidate Ferdinand Waititu, Senator Kimani Wamatangi and Gathoni Wamuchomba (woman representative candidate).

“You are the people who gave us Waititu, chose Mr Wamatangi as your senator, Wamuchomba as the preferred woman representative choice and all the MP and MCA [candidates],” he said in Kiambu town.

"Vote for them in August because before the primaries, I came here and said I would work with the people you will give us,” the president added.
