A stern warning has been issued to politicians in Mombasa using criminal gangs to advance their own selfish interests.Mombasa Deputy County Commissioner Mahmoud Salim said they have been profiling youth being recruited in criminal gangs with the aim of disrupting political rallies.Salim said police in Mombasa have acquired photos and phone contacts of the criminals and are working towards acquiring adequate information concerning their funders. The commissioner said he will not allow the criminal gangs to disrupt peace in the county during this electioneering period.“If you think we will compromise on issues to do with the security status in the county, my friend just try and see,” he warned. He said they have mapped out areas believed to be crime hotspots and will soon deploy intelligence officers to collect information that will enable them to advert any incidences of insecurity.Salim also asked all politicians in the county to inform police about their planned political rallies.“We will soon hold a meeting with all political aspirants to streamline security matters. Mombasa will not experience any political clashes, and any politician whose rally will be marred with chaos will be held accountable,” said Salim. He also said that cyber crime officers have been deployed to the county to monitor social media users.“Let me remind you that this time round, we are taking all those planning to disrupt the peaceful coexistence in our county head on, no dialogue about this,” he said.
