Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa now claims certain politicians are funding terrorists in Lamu County to scare away voters especially in perceived Jubilee strongholds.
Marwa said politicians whom he did not name were now funding, providing food and protection to terrorists hiding in Boni Forest.According to The Star, Marwa said the move was aimed at instilling fear especially in perceived Jubilee strongholds so that residents can flee and not participate in the August 8 general election. He has now issued a shoot-to-kill order for terrorists in the county. He further claimed that last week’s abduction of Public Works Principal Secretary Mariam El Maawy by suspected militants was politically instigated. The coordinator added that the terror incidents in Poromoko, Pandanguo and Jima were merely political strategies by individuals whose motive is to scare away voters.“They want people to think it is terrorists, but we know of politicians who are providing funding so that residents are killed and others flee. All these are political calculations. They want to instill fear, but we want to let them know that people will vote and will do so in large numbers too,” said Marwa on Sunday. He at the same time warned politicians from Lamu and the neighbouring Tana River county who he said have been financing ‘terrorists’ that they will face the law.The security boss claimed some politicians from the two counties were sponsoring youths to wreak havoc during campaigns and on the Election Day.He said it is unfortunate the politicians protect and even give food to terrorists in the Boni Forest to ensure they are comfortable as they continue to frustrate locals.“Why hasn’t the governor or any leader for that matter come out to even send a condolence message to the PS and the families of those who died or even condemn the incident? What’s the meaning of their silence? These people are given food and weapons. They pass through villages as they go to conduct raids. Surely, someone must be seeing or knowing them,” he added.
