Lamu County Commissioner Joseph Kanyiri has warned politicians against inciting locals to oppose projects being initiated by the national government.Speaking to journalists at his office on Wednesday, Kanyiri accused a section of politicians led by Lamu County Women Representative Shakilla Abdallah of allegedly inciting residents to oppose and reject State projects.The commissioner said the government will not tolerate inciters, adding that they risk arrest and prosecution.“We are not going to negotiate with inciters who think they can incite the public to oppose State projects,” said Kanyiri, as quoted by the Nation.He further warned residents against unlawful demonstrations saying they too will not be spared.The county commissioner said the controversial Sh200 billion Lamu coal power plant project by the national government will go on as planned.A section of politicians have opposed the project saying it will cause environmental hazards once completed.On Monday, Shakilla vowed to move to court to stop the project, and accused the government of failing to consult residents.
