Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka endorsement by a section of Kamba community for presidency has kick-started his strategy for the top seat in 2022.
According to political analyst Peter Ngure, Kalonzo’s endorsement on Monday and hint of re-branding his Wiper party is a clear indication that he is serious and ready for 2022.
In an interview on Thursday, Ngure said Kalonzo could be eyeing to partner with key politicians as he prepares for 2022.
“The Wiper Party leader seems ready for 2022 and his proposal to have Wiper re-branded to One Kenya Movement (OKM) sets the set stage for 2022,” Ngure said.
According to Ngure, these are the likely top politicians Kalonzo could approach for partnership ahead of the 2022 polls.
1. Gideon Moi
He is the Baringo senator serving his second term in office. He is also the KANU party chairman.
Gideon Moi has a massive following in Rift Valley and has also declared interest in the residential seat in 2022.
The retired president Daniel Arap Moi’s son is considered a critic and rival to Deputy President William Ruto.
Moi has openly been quoted saying that he is open to political partnership with anyone ahead of 2022.
2. Hassan Joho
He is the Mombasa governor serving his second and last term in office.
The flamboyant governor is also ODM Party deputy leader.
Joho’s political star has been rising owing to his political style and often confrontations with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee government.
The Mombasa governor has also declared interest in the 2022 presidential seat.
Governor Joho is considered as the political kingpin at the Coastal Region.
3. Musalia Mudavadi
He is the Amani National Congress (ANC) Party leader.
Mudavadi unsuccessfully vied for presidency in the 2013 general election.
He is also a co- principal in NASA coalition.
The ANC leader is considered Western Kenya political king-pin.
4. Peter Munya
He is the former Meru governor and unsuccessfully contested for re-election in last year’s general election losing to Kiraitu Murungi.
Munya is the Party of National Unity (PNU) chairperson and was recently appointed as East Africa Community Cabinet Secretary by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The CS has also declared interest in the 2022 presidential election and was quoted once saying that it will not be automatic for Mt Kenya region to support Deputy President William Ruto in 2022.
5. William Ruto
He is the Deputy resident and Jubilee party deputy leader.
Ruto is eyeing the presidency in 2022 and is banking on President Uhuru Kenyatta’s support.
He has massive support in Rift Valley region.
Ruto is considered a friend to Kalonzo Musyoka despite their political rivalry.
6. Mike Sonko
He is the Nairobi county governor serving his first term.
He has massive support of city residents.
Governor Sonko has been quoted saying that he will not seek re-election once his term comes to an end in 2022.
Kalonzo could partner with Sonko and bank on his support for city votes in 2022.
