Over 2,500 elders from West Pokot, Laikipia, Baringo and Uganda held prayers on Sunday night before slaughtering a bull on Monday morning, June 24, to ‘curse’ leaders who are intending to rig the upcoming August 8 elections.

The  elders conducted the prayers at Nasukuta, Chepkopegh constituency, West Pokot county where they prayed for peace in Kenya.

Women, youths and journalists were not allowed to attend the event as the venue was said to be scared.

Members of the press were only allowed to watch and take photos and videos from a distance.

Speaking to journalist after the prayers, one of the elders Yaralima Chesira said they prayers were held after West Pokot county was noted to be one of the hot spot regions where violence was likely to occur.

He further narrated that they had cursed leaders who will rig the polls because they did not want the country to witness any bloodshed.

The elder noted the cursed leaders will die before December, this year.

“We do not want any blood shed. Those who ascend to power by rigging will die before December. We have pleased our gods by slaughtering a bull and I hope our prayers will be answered,” said Chesira.

Leaders from West Pokot welcomed the move and urged candidates to accept the outcome of the elections.
