National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) held a peace meeting in Mwingi on Thursday. The meeting was attended by more than 80 opinion leaders as calls to end banditry in the region intensify.
Speaking during the meeting, NCIC member Roba Sharamo said that politicians are among the people to blame for lack of peace in the area.
He claimed that the newly elected have been fueling politics of division among the residents of the area, adding that time has come for them to desist from the same.
“It’s worrying that the elections have divided Kenyans along two coalition affiliations. The political divide has hatched ethnic lines. The counties are not left behind too,” the commissioner said, as quoted by the Star.
The meeting comes at a time when there close to 30 cases of defamation pending hearing at the court. Sharamo also urged users of the social to be careful with their language lest their plunge the nation into chaos during this time when political temperatures as ever escalating.
The commissioner also said that the county is doing well in terms of cohesion despite the long Tana Kitui border conflict that has led to migrations of persons from the area.
