A local radio station and TV channel risk being shut down after the premises housing the two received an auction notice.

The Meru based vernacular media house, Mwariama is owned by a successful businessman Zablon Mathenge Itewa. As Kenyans.co.ke reported, Viewline Auctioneers Company has given a notice to sell the plot on which the stations’ offices and studios stand.

If this materializes then the media outlets will have to go off air for some time during relocation.

The piece of land in question is 0.30 hectares owned by a former police officer turned politician. Mr. Mathenge is seeking to oust Meru senatorial incumbent Kiraitu Murungi in the coming general polls. He will be on the ballot using the Mazingira Greens Party.

According to the blog, Mr. Zablon Mathenge Itawe did not comment on the issue stating that the matter was still in court. It is yet to be established if there is a political hand in Mathenge's case.
