Political leaders in the North Rift region have pledged to continue supporting projects that had been initiated by the late Bishop Cornelius Korir.
Speaking during a special mass at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Eldoret on Monday that was used to raise funds in support of Bishop Korir's projects, the leaders, led by North Rift Economic Bloc chairman governor Jackson Mandago and his deputy who is also the Council of governors chairman Governor Josphat Nanok, hailed the bishop for not only preaching peace and cohesion amongst Kenyans, but also caring for the needy on society.
They committed to continue supporting all the ongoing projects in their respective areas as a way of honoring Bishop Korir who served in the Eldoret Catholic Diocese for 27 years.
During the fundraising, over Sh2.9 million was raised in a record ten mins.
"I am glad that we are here not to raise funds that will go to the expenses of Bishop's burial but to support his projects across the region," said Nandi governor Stephen Sang.
"Let this not be a one-day event, it should be an annual exercise so that we ensure visions and initiatives of our late Bishop go on even in his death," added Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi.
Among the projects that were being supported by Bishop Korir include tens of homes for children with special needs in the entire North Rift, financially supporting education for over 100 candidates to the priesthood in several seminaries as well as building houses for the old padres among others.
