Political campaigners in Nakuru County have taken to social media in efforts to whip up support for various contestants ahead of the 2017 general elections.

Tens of whatsapp groups and Facebook pages have been formed in the past few months, providing an easy platform for voter mobilisation. 

Parliamentarians with active Facebook presence include Molo MP Jacob Macharia, Nakuru Town East MP David Gikaria, Bahati’s Kimani Ngunjiri, Arama Samuel of Nakuru Town West and Joseph Kiuna (Njoro). 

Nakuru County Assembly Speaker Susan Kihika, who is running for the Senate seat, has a YouTube channel showcasing her political milestones in the run up to the elections. 

Known as Susan Kihika TV, the channel had 15 subscribers and 18 videos at the time of going to press, with the most viewed clip grossing 271 views.

Kihika also has a Twitter presence under the tags @TeamKihika and @susankihika, with audiences of 1,868 and 2,705 followers respectively. 

Among the County's most active Whatsapp groups are Sauti ya Mashinani (213 members), Nakuru United (253 members), Nakuru Politics Forum (149 members) and Nakuru Oversight Forum (254 members).
