Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) has called on leaders in the country to conduct their political activities with decorum.

KNCCI Nairobi chapter chairman Richard Ngatia said the current rising political temperatures were hurting the economy as they were scaring away investors.

"Political leaders should put the country's interests and welfare first rather than make overstretched demands coupled with inflammatory political statements that could scare off investors," he said.

Addressing journalists in Nairobi on Wednesday, Ngatia reminded politicians that elections come and go but Kenya will endure, urging them to strive to lower the looming crisis.

"Over the past six months we have lived in a prolonged political atmosphere that is not conducive for business," he said.

Ngatia added: "So far we have already witnessed rampant demonstrations ruining many businesses in all the affected areas across the country. In Mombasa, we run a very high risk of losing tourism business, which is the major source of livelihoods in our coastal region."
