Boor said that bright but needy students risk not getting bursaries to pursue their education due to politicians rewarding their loyal supporters at the expense of the needy.

"Disbursement of bursaries both in county and national government is politically oriented, not given on merit. It is about who knows who in the government for you to benefit from the funds," he said.

He said bursary is now being used as a tool by some politicians to get political mileage, by rewarding those who voted for them and punishing those who didn't.

He urged governments to increase the bursary allocations to benefit more bright and needy students.
