Kisumu County Police Commander John Kamau has thanked residents for being largely peaceful and living in unity.

Speaking on Tuesday, the police boss noted that issues of unrest resulted from incitement and cautioned politicians against inciting members of the public.

“I thank Kisumu residents for being relatively peaceful except when they are incited by politicians. I would urge politicians to stop inciting the public," he said.

The county police commander affirmed that residents have a right to advance their course through peacefully demonstrations but must ensure that no property is destroyed.

He urged locals who feel that their right may have been infringed upon in one way or another to follow the constitution while advancing their course.

Mr Kamau assured the locals that various strategies such as frequent police patrols, frequent public outreach programs and community policing were being used to improve security in the county.

“Anyone has a right to picket so long as property is not destroyed,” he said.We are using the media to teach members of the public on the importance of obeying the rule of law,” Kamau stated.

His sentiments came just a few hours after rowdy youth blocked the Ahero - Kisumu road demanding the release of lawyer Miguna Miguna.
