Kisumu County Jubilee Party chairman Zuberi Liete has warned political leaders against what he termed as politicizing the issue of appointment of Cabinet Secretaries.
Speaking in Kisumu on Monday, Liete said that there’s no point of political leaders and their supporters ‘taking it’ upon themselves to politicize issues to do with formation of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s cabinet.
“President Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto should be given time to set up a cabinet that will deliver on Jubilee promises,” said Liete.
“Those in Jubilee should stop succession politics because we still have a long way to go before the 2020 general elections,” he added.
Last week, president Kenyatta gave the names of six cabinet secretaries assured of serving in the cabinet in the head of state’s last term in office, and proposed three others for ministerial posts.
The six are: Fred Matiang’i (Internal Security and acting cabinet secretary for education), Charles Keter (Energy), Henry Rotich (Finance), Najib Balala (Tourism), Joe Mucheru (ICT) and James Macharia.
Those proposed for cabinet posts are former Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko, former Marsabit governor Ukur Yatani and former Turkana senator John Munyes.
The president and his deputy are believed to be working towards filling the remaining positions. Constitutionally, the head of State can appoint up to 22 cabinet secretaries.
