Authorities in Kitui have cautioned politicians against politicising the death of former Kitui mayor Martha Mwangangi who was crushed by a fire-fighting engine truck on Friday in Kitui during demonstrations against the county's decision to demolish Kalundu Market stalls.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, Kitui County Commissioner Boaz Cherutich challenged politician not to try to capitalise on that unfortunate incident for political mileage, confirming that he had directed the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to delve into the matter to establish circumstances that led to the death of Mwangangi.
"The matter will be investigated conclusively and necessary action as per the law taken. The driver of the fateful county government fire engine was immediately arrested and detained. He will be arraigned in court on Monday to answer to charges of careless driving and causing death," he said.
The driver of the ill-fated truck has since been arrested and his currently being detained at the Kitui Police Station before arraignment in court on Monday.
