Politicians in the country have been cautioned against turning funerals into campaign podiums at the expense of comforting the grieving family.
Deputy president William Ruto on Friday sounded the warning saying the political class had perfected the art of politicking at funeral events which he noted was worrying.
Speaking during a requiem mass for the late Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery at the Nairobi Baptist Church Thursday, the deputy president said the trend ought to stop as it was quickly gaining momentum.
Ruto said Nkaissery's requim mass presents the best opportunity to tame the vice.
"Its my prayer that this requime mass provides a turning point for us to know that in a funeral it is good to remember the dignity of the departed and be concerned about their family. And to the rest of us who are politicians actually,we need to stop turning funerals into political podia," he said.
Nkaissery who died last Saturday at the Karen Hospital will be laid to rest at his Bisil home in Kajiado county Saturday.
