Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago claims politics has caused a major drop in the revenue collection as the county failed to meet the Sh1billion targeted this year.

The county collected Sh970 million, according to the governor.

He noted that those engaging in the business have not been paying taxes due to the bad political environment.

However, he does not blame them because their businesses have been affected at large too and some even quitted for a while.

"We are now urging residents of Eldoret and other parts to go back to work because we are through with elections. They must also ensure they pay taxes so we can provide services," he said.

He also said county revenue staff would enhance revenue collection in markets and other areas. Hence they will sensitise residents on the need to pay taxes so the county functions effectively.

Speaking in Eldoret while touring the site where Sweden will help set up a waste management system at a cost of Sh500 million, Mandago thanked the communities living in Eldoret, including those who support NASA, for maintaining peace and unity during the political season.
