Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has assured women candidates vying for various political seats in the upcoming August 8 polls that there security will be beefed up.

Nkaissery admitted that also male politicians are threatened but noted it is not as much as women.

“The government will improve the security of female candidates depending on the level of threat each one faces,” said Nkaissery.

The CS urged the women to be strong and not allow themselves be intimidated by men.

“It is a tough battle. You will meet your male brothers who are going to get personal. That is politics. It is not the end of the road,” he noted.

Addressing the women candidates during a meeting in Nairobi, Tuesday, he told them to prepare for tough battles.

“You will be safe…just focus on the seat you want to go for and get it…you must fight…Usiseme tunapigwa…wewe pia pigana (don’t say we are being beaten…fight back). You need to be tough. Politics isn’t for the faint hearted.”
