Jokanyanam Association has of late been faced with leadership squabbles prompting a crisis election to save it from ruin.

Former chairman, Nelson Mandela fell out with a section of union members over the criteria used in electing leaders; saying county politics should be shunned at all cost. This was after a third year student from Homa Bay County almost exchanged blows after he alleged that Siaya County students were favoured to take lucrative posts.

“We will not accept this kind of politics. Regional balance should be looked into. How come all posts can be taken by Siaya students?’’ he posed.

Despite the fallout, elections finally ended peacefully and the new executive officials unveiled to take the leadership mantle for the next one year.

Jokanyanam’s incoming chairman is Rolex Akatcha, Organising secretary Gunani Opiyo, Secretary General is Obama Paul and Pauline Akinyi was elected treasurer.

During his acceptance speech, Akatcha promised to unite Luo students within the university, and as a leader, he will creates linkages with the respective Nyanza County Governors for their support.
