Isiolo County Commissioner George Natembeya has revealed that the recent clashes witnessed between the Borana and Somali community were sparked off by boundary issues and dirty politics.
Natembeya says local leaders are partly to blame for the renewed clashes, stating that the issue has been there for quite sometime but regional politicians have never been keen to amicably resolve the issue.
"Somali community living in Garissa County and their neighboring Borana community have for a long time lived as rivals. They have never lived peacefully. Local politicians should have resolved the issue long time ago since it revolves around border issues," said Natembeya.
Since the clashes broke out close to two weeks ago, several families living along the borders of the two counties have fled their homes for fear of retaliatory attacks.
As this happens, Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery is on Thursday, today, expected to lead a delegation comprising of elected politicians and community elders from the Somali and Borana communities to a peace meeting in Nanyuki town to help find a lasting solution.
