A new survey conducted by Twaweza Kenya shows Kenyans have confidence that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) will conduct the next general elections in a free and fair manner.

The survey, conducted between the 21st April and 23rd May, 2016 sampled 1763 respondents above 18 years, living in urban and rural areas in the 47 counties.

The survey found out that more than 50% of Kenyans are confident IEBC is capable of conducting the 2017 general elections in a free and fair manner.

29% of those interviewed strongly disagreed when asked the same question while 16% somewhat approve the commission. 2% don't know.

Asked on the general performance of IEBC, 40% of the respondents believe the commission is doing a good job while 27% somewhat approve with 18% strongly disapproving the commission.

Lack of legal identification documents, distrust with the IEBC and unawareness were cited as the main barriers when registering as a voter.
