Ruto emerged with only 23 percent while, interestingly, he was followed by opposition leader Raila Odinga at 21 percent.

Interestingly though, the poll also ranked Odinga as the most trusted person with 23 percent followed by President Uhuru Kenyatta at 18 percent. Education CS Fred Matiangi emerged third with 14 percent.

Ruto has been a subject of opposition leaders led by Odinga, who have accused him periodically of corruption and land grabbing. He was linked with grabbing of Lang'ata primary school grounds in 2015.

The Deputy President also threatened to sue human rights activist Boniface Mwangi of linking him with the controversial murder of businessman Jacob Juma.

However, in a recent interview from New York, the DP maintained that his wealth emanated from handwork and commitment.
