A poll released by Infotrack on Monday shows that only three MPs in Mombasa are likely to retain their seats if elections were conducted today. Kisauni’s Rashid Bedzimba who got 55.3 per cent), Changamwe MP Omar Mwinyi (64.2 per cent) and Mvita’s Sharrif Nasir (63.3 per cent) are the only three MPs who will be re-elected as per the poll. According to the poll, Likoni MP Masoudi Mwahima who received 38.9 per cent and Jomvu MP Badi Twalib who got 31.6 per cent are more likely to go home if the Independent Electoral Boundaries and Commission (IEBC) conducted elections today. The survey also shows that 74 per cent of Mombasa residents do not know whom to back for the region’s senatorial seat after the incumbent, Senator Hassan Omar declared interest in the county's gubernatorial seat. The survey indicates that 16.7 per cent of the residents would vote for Omar as their senator if they were asked to vote today. “Omar’s popularity as a senator has come down after he declared his interest in the county’s top seat,” said Infotrack MD Angela Ambitho, as quoted by the Star. The poll also shows that 62.8 per cent of the voters would cast their vote for Joho, with 8.2 per cent supporting Jubilee's Suleiman Shahbal and 2.6 per cent willing to vote for Senator Hassan Omar.
