Elected MPs with more than one spouse will now be forced to bear the brunt of measures introduced by the Salaries and Remunerations Commission (SRC).
According to the new directive, the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC)'s prescribed medical cover will now cater for only the legislator and a maximum of five dependents.
The family members will include one spouse and only four children aged under 25 years who are still dependent on the legislator.
This will be a rude shock to polygamous MPs who include Budalang'i MP-elect Raphael Wanjala.
"What will some of us with more than one wife do? It is unfair of Parliament to cater for one spouse in the medical insurance for MPs. It should have remained as it was in the past, when we were allowed to give the details of two wives and five children," said Mr Wanjala.
