Kisii county polytechnic tutors have called off the plans of a week-long demonstration over unpaid salaries.
According to them, they have never been paid their salaries in the last 27 months and they had already planned to demonstrate to compel the county government to pay them.
The change of heart comes after Kisii County Chief Officer for Education David Kebiro promise that they will be paid .
Addressing journalist on Wednesday in his office, Kebiro said the county government will pay them their salaries and offer permanent employment for teachers under contract.
“We have negotiated with our polytechnic tutors today about the demonstrations they had planned to conduct for one week and we agreed that they call off such demonstrations as the county government plan to settle their demands,” said Kebiro.
“Now they have called off the demonstrations and those who are working under contracts are going to get employed permanently," added Kebiro.
Kisii county polytechnic tutors chairman Steve Nyang’au agreed over the same but said they will come back to the streets if county government can't fulfill that promise.
