As Kenyans celebrated the welcoming of the New Year 2017 from various stations, Mombasa residents did the same at Mama Ngina Drive.
They welcomed the highly anticipated year with pomp and colour, with every individual taking photos of the rare moment.
Fireworks hit the air, spreading glows, as residents shouted 'Happy New Year', with joy, December 31, 2016 midnight.
In his new year message, Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho prayed for a successful 2017 and called for peace and coexistence.
"As we thank the Almighty for a productive and blessed 2016, we continue to thank Him and pray for a prosperous 2017. A new year blessed with cohesion and peaceful coexistence, unity and harmony among all Kenyans,'' said Joho.
He further wished everybody a ''Happy new year 2017.''
