The flooding is near the Kenya Vehicle Manufacturers (KVM) which has been leading to heavy traffic congestion.

Speaking in Makongeni shopping centre on Tuesday, Thika District Business Association (TDBA) Secretary General Sam Chege said that the two institutions had a responsibility to ensure that there was smooth flow of traffic along the busy but narrow highway.

"Road users and motorists have in the past few days been having a problem near KVM every time there is a downpour because the drainage system along the road is pathetic. Motorists have been having it rough while the responsible authorities keep quiet. It is high time the problem was addressed," said Chege.

He noted that the rampant traffic jams on the road were having a negative effect to the economy of Thika and other areas served by the road.

"Endless traffic jams have the effect of slowing down our economy especially among Makongeni business people who rely on the road every day. A major structural adjustment is required on the road and its drainage system," Chege said.
