I wonder why unregistered voters are among the first Kenyans to complain about poor leadership.

What gives you the courage to talk about mismanagement of funds, unfinished projects, poor health system, striking teachers and terrorism among other things that define a failing nation when you have not registered as voter?

Registering as a voter gives you the mandate to decide who should air your grievances.

Failing to register as a voter is another way of voting for the person you never wanted to ascend to power.

In other words, your inaction will be shown by the leaders who are going to take over power.

If you do not make a point of voting, you have no reason to complain about the poor state of roads, mismanagement of funds or lack of transparency when offering county jobs among other misgivings.

Kenya is a democratic nation, and the best way to exercise your democratic right is by voting.

Democracy can only work when each one of us takes part in the general election. What do you expect to happen when half of the population does not vote?

Refusing to vote gives the minority an opportunity to make decisions on your behalf.

The next time you find anyone pointing out the failures of your governor, senator, MP and county rep among other leaders; do not make your contribution if you are sure that he or she has not registered as a voter.
