Nyamira County assembly nominated MCA, Zipporah Osoro has called on residents not to interfere with the management of local schools to better their performance in the national examinations.

Speaking yesterday during a prize award ceremony for last year’s KCPE candidates at Kebirigo boys High school, Osoro blamed the poor performance of some Gusii schools on cheap politics over school management. She noted that many schools lagged behind nationally due to unending wars over who should lead a certain school and from which community.

“We are the people who are killing our schools’ performance standards because we want head teachers and principals to come from our community. We have created a notion that local schools are non-performers and our children have gone to neighbouring counties to search for education," she argued.

She encouraged the residents to embrace the local schools and the teachers to work together to improve education standards in the region for a brighter future.

“Local schools can work better if we shun divisive politics and work with teachers for the future of our children, we can only grow if we join our hands and accept anybody as it’s a constitutional mandate for one to work anywhere in Kenya," concluded Osoro.

The nominated MCA donated revision materials to the school.
