Lack of proper planning within Nakuru County is to blame for the inability to fight fierce fire outbreaks, deputy governor Joseph Ruto has said.
Ruto says that the fire departments in the sub-counties find it hard to access areas like Elburgon, Subukia and Bahati due to poor planning mechanism.
“We have had serious fire incidences in the sub-counties but any time the fire department seeks access, they are blocked by either squeezed buildings or no access roads at all,” said Ruto.
Ruto blamed this on the lack of integrity by some officers under the Lands ministry tasked with the issuance of title deeds.
“Some officers would deliberately give out title deeds for communal land or even areas where sewerage and power lines are passing. Often we hear of cases where the same piece of land is sold to several individuals,” he said.
Speaking during the launch of an urban planning digital map for Naivasha, the deputy county boss said there is need for the town to improve on its sanitation.
The country has been given Sh2 billion by the World Bank to help create digital maps for 12 different towns.
“This is a major step as Naivasha and Nakuru have never received any planning. This will go a long way in ensuring simple problems like water and sanitation do not affect our county,” he added.
