Speaking on Sunday evening, the residents accused a section of tenants in the area for illegally connecting electricity that caused unnecessary fires that has left several constituents homeless.

"One or two will not cause the huge losses to us. Losing property through fire incidents have been on the rise in the slums. How comes every week there must be fire in the slums?" argued Janet Opiyo a resident.

She added that some tenants have opted to connect power poorly without knowing the outcome.

"Many cases of fire in the slums has been as a result of illegal power connections where tenants connect naked wires which later causes fire. This poor way of connecting power should be condemned and any suspect reported to the police for legal actions to be taken. We can't sit and watch losing property due to carelessness of some individuals," she noted.

Kevin Odour, a landlord in the area, said that many tenants do not prefer using electricity token which they claim is expensive for them.

"Some tenants have connected wires so that they avoid buying electricity tokens. Power disconnections is to blame and tenants must be taken into account for the losses of the properties as a result of fire", he stated.
