A popular Kikuyu musician has come out to refute claims that he is dead.
Joseph Kimaru on Friday said reports that he has passed on are false indicating that those propagating the allegations are out to demoralize his music fans. Reports of his death have been making rounds on social media.
In an interview with radio Jambo on Friday morning the artists stated categorically that he is "alive and kicking" although he had been admitted at Nairobi's Avenue Hospital after he fell sick. He said he is doing well after receiving treatment and expects to be discharged today (Friday).
he said he even expects to attend a musician's event at Homeland Hotel.
"I am in hospital, with God above all of us I believe no illness can conquer us," he told Radio Jambo in an interview.
Kimaru is widely known for his Kikuyu hit songs including 'Ndari ya Mwarimu', Muhiki wa Mikosi and ‘Muti Uyu'.
He started his music carreer in 1965 and has released close to 2,000 songs.
After a long time of singing secular music, he announced that he was saved and embarked on singing sacred or christian songs.
He is 79 years old and says he still loves singing. He says he will dedicate his last years in the music industry in nurturing young talent.
