Popular Kikuyu secular artist John De'mathew has warned Central Kenya voters against 'betraying' Deputy President William Ruto come 2022 General elections.
Ruto is expected to run for the presidency on a Jubilee Party ticket in a bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta whose second five-year term will elapse on August 2022.
De'mathew in his seven minutes song christened 'Twambe Turihe Thiri' (we pay the debt first), notes that Uhuru-Raila March handshake should not alter Jubilee Party political arithmetics agreed ahead of 2013 elections.
"Let's welcome baba (Raila) home but we must remember that we have to pay our friend's debt. It is good that the country will now be at peace but we should be very careful that we don't take home the beehive together with the bees," the artist says.
The artist figuratively warns that Raila is like a girl with a 'red thigh' and must, therefore, be treated with a lot of caution lest he 'unleashes' destruction to the whole community. The so-called 'red-thighed' women are considered to be a bad omen among Kikuyus and are said to inflict death and destruction on their male lovers.
De'matthew adds that the community's avarice and 'love for money' should not lead it into betraying Ruto.
"Goodness is paid by the same and there should be no two ways about it. Do not do to another what you would not want to be done to you," the now popular song says in parts.
