There are a good number of politicians who started of their political career back in University.
Some of the popular leaders from the western region, who now they hold big political seats in the country, actively participated in campus politics before taking their political skills to a national level.
Here are some of the politicians from the western region who started their political career back in University.
1.Ababu Namwamba
The former Budalangi Member of Parliament was a student leader at the University of Nairobi representing Parklands Campus.
He started his political journey back in University where he was studying law and is now the Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) of Foreign Affairs after recently being appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
2.James Orengo
The senator of Siaya County was elected as the Student Organization of Nairobi University (SONU) Chairman while studying law at the Institution, a position he held from 1972 to 1973.
Currently, he is a senior member of the National Super Alliance (NASA).
3.Anyang Nyong'o
The Kisumu County Governor served as a student leader at the Makerere University in Uganda.
The Prof is highly respected in the country and has served in different positions ingovernment.
He served former President Mwai Kibaki's government as the Minister for Medical services and the Minister for Planning and National Development .
4. Miguna Miguna
The vocal lawyer was elected as the Student Organization of Nairobi University (SONU) Chairman in 1987.
Currently, he is a self-proclaimed general of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and was recently deported to Canada after administering opposition leader Raila Odinga's oath on January,30.
5. Gladys Wanga
The Homa Bay County women representative is a former Secretary General of the Kenyatta University Students Association (KUSA).
Wanga became the first female to be elected as the Secretary General of the Students Union.
She is a vocal member of the Orange Democratic Movement.
