The Kenya Secondary School Heads Association is now appealing to the Ministry of Education to postpone the reporting date for form one students. The association national chairman, John Awiti, said a large number of students whose school choices were rejected by the ministry have not been placed into other schools. Awiti said the ministry should consider possibilities of extending admission time to allow the affected students to find schools of their choice. He alleged that the confusion was caused by the ministry when it admitted students with lower marks in national schools. “We are blaming the ministry for all this mess and now we are appealing to them to push ahead date for [form] one admission to allow students who rejected their offer to find schools,” he said. He said a good number of students across the country who scored very highly found themselves in schools that were not in their preferred choices. Addressing the press in Kisumu, Awiti called upon the ministry to work out on a cut point for students joining national schools in future. He said students across the country do one common examinations and score differently and should not be victimised once results are out regarding admission into secondary schools.
