A Nakuru MCA has called for the full implementation of the standard 50 Kilogramme packaging law passed by the county assembly.

According to Mau Narok MCA Kariuki, potato farmers in the area are still being exploited by middlemen.

The MCA now wants the county government to ensure the law is fully implemented to keep off brokers

“We still face challenges as farmers such as packaging where some brokers still exploit farmers through packing in excess of the 50 kg limit in total disregard of the new law. I think it is high time we do away with this,” he said.

The MCA also took issue with what he termed cartels that are manning markets but for their own interests leaving farmers to suffer.

“In our markets we have these groups of cartels who are busy making farmers suffer. I think the export permits should be given to all those who have met the requirement but not cartels,” he said.
