Speaking on Monday at Kivulini estate, Kamenu Ward MCA Elizabeth Muthoni noted that there was an emerging cartel of land brokers in the area who were selling to unsuspecting land buyers even some sections reserved for public amenities like roads, hospitals, schools among others.

"I would like to ask land buyers to be very cautious before they commit their hard-earned money to fraudulent land deals. Brokers are everywhere in Thika town purporting to sell non-existent land here in Kamenu and other outskirts of Thika town," said Muthoni.

She said that there were several cases of double allocation where two or more people are sold the same piece of land and issued with fake title deeds. Muthoni attributed the fraudulent cases to rising demand of land in the area where many buyers were buying land to put up homes or rental structures.

"Demand for land in this part of Thika is so high and brokers are taking the advantage to rob unsuspecting land buyers who are either quick to sign into their fake deals or desperate for land," said the MCA.

She urged potential land buyers to conduct land searches at the Lands Registry in Thika town to ascertain true ownership of the land they intend to buy to avoid losing their money and time to fraudulent brokers.
