The impending by-election will no doubt be hotly contested with veterans in the area politics likely to join the race for the seat.

So who are his likely successors?

Former Rongo MP Ochillo Ayacko is a favorite to succeed the slain Senator. Being a veteran in the county politics with over 20 years in the political arena, the former Cabinet Minister will have an opportunity to bring his career back on track.. And being NASA leader Raila Odinga's loyal follower, Ayacko is the man to watch should he throw the hat in the ring.

Then there is immediate former Nyatike MP Edick Anyanga Omondi. The former legislator who lost his seat in 2017 to little-known trade unionist, Tom Odege, has a  huge political muscle having been in the game for over 10 years. But will he clinch the ODM party ticket to use as his vehicle to vie? Time will tell.

Owino Likowa, former Migori MP may also try his luck once again having been in the cold for over 10 years. But his recent appointment as South Nyanza Sugar Company board chairman by President Uhuru Kenyatta may rule him out of the race.

Whatever happens, a major political battle is looming in Migori as power game beckons.
