Speaking this morning at Sarang’ombe village in Kibera, Ronald said that he decided to rear poultry since he saw it a fit profession rather than seeking employment.

“I came to Nairobi to seek employment 3 years ago. Since I did not get a job, I had some little money which I decided to buy chicken with. I bought 10 hens, grade type and reared them in the small hutch I had built by then. Later on, they started laying eggs which I sell to date in Kibera at a cost of sh10 per egg. Every day I supply 100 eggs in Kibera area,’’ he said.

Ronald said that since then, he was able to buy more hens that have boosted his earnings.

‘’At times I sell the hens to hotels. One hen costs sh700. I also sell chicken organic wastes to people who have small farms in the area,” he added.

He stated that he buys feeds for his poultry birds from Gikomba market in Nairobi where it is sold at cheap prices.

In a month, he buys feeds worth sh1500. There are other small feeds he buys from Kibera markets to support the poultry weekly.
