Urgent Action Fund–Africa, an International Non-Governmental Organisation representative Dr. Jeremiah Opiyo based in Nakuru has decried the slow speed of implementing government driven poverty eradication programmes and pledges in the country.
Dr. Opiyo observed this when he delivered a public lecturer on Sustainable Economic Recovery Prospects in developing countries at Mt. Kenya University, Nakuru Campus today (Thursday).
He said that poverty levels in the country were on the increase even as the government claims to be putting in place measures to fight poverty and create wealth.
According to the social economic activist and scholar, the country is far from achieving the Vision 2030 economic and social development goals with the current slow pace of implementation.
He castigated that the government is not keen on implementing economic recovery goals but merely playing public relations for its own political gains.
“It is not that we do not have economic planners or resources, what we lack is a political good will to create wealth for all Kenyans while high level of corruption in government promotes skewed allocation of the national cake,’’ observed Dr. Opiyo.
