Residents of Kaviani market in Kathiani Sub County have urged the Machakos County government to intervene and end the power shortage being experienced in the area.
The power shortage which has been ongoing for three days has also affected Nzaikoni and Kithunguini markets. The residents, led by Cornelius Musembi who is a businessman in Kaviani market, said that they are counting losses due to the situation.
Musembi said that businesses have been forced to close early due to the increased crime rate especially in the late hours.
The residents said that they have been forced to use hurricane paraffin lamps during the night.
However they said using paraffin is eating into their savings due to the high prices of paraffin in the area.
They said electricity was important in the area as many business depend on the availability of electricity. They also said that the shortage experienced in the area may affect the performance of their children in the ongoing national examinations.
