Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has rubbished calls from a section of Gusii residents who wants him to resign over increased insecurity in his home turf.
Matiang’i said he will not succumb to pressure from residents who have been incited by local politicians.
“People should find other things to do and not pushing me around to resign. Local leaders are trying to use residents who are idle to take into the streets and roads to protests over insecurity not because they want security improved but to taint my name,” he said.
He said some Gusii leaders who he declined to name are out to spread misleading information about how is he leading the Interior ministry with an aim to remain politically relevant.
“I am aware that we have not done enough to boost the security in Gusii region. I don’t feel happy when I hear people being killed by thugs.
"The interior ministry is doing everything possible including deploying of more security officers to beef up security in all corners of the region,” he said.
He called on Kisii County commissioner Godfrey Kigochi and Nyamira County commissioner Isaiah Nakoru to ensure security patrols are intensified in deep villages to flush out criminals.
